16th May 2010 Picnic @ Ross

What a perfect day!

The weather was perfect - not a cloud in the sky for about 550 entrants and their families.

There were 400 tourists and 1300 people associated with this event.

Look forward to more events like this in the future.

28th March 2010 Breakfast Run to Eaglehawk Neck

James Willson and myself were running late as usual to meet other members at Mures car park. There were 14 Mini’s and a few non-minis that greeted us. Everyone was hungry; so we set immediately off to Tony Oates’ property at Eaglehawk Neck.

James Willson’s Mini was seen to be getting hot straight away and had a slow trip there and back. Jack Perry’s pressure relief valve was stuck and had no oil pressure for a little while. Also experienced a flat tyre on the way down to Eaglehawk Neck.

Once we arrived at Mr Oates place, he warmly greeted everyone and showed us his newly built house and workshop. Tony’s grandson James and mate were busily cooking eggs and bacon for the hungry travellers. After the big feed everyone just mellowed out on the deck and took in the magnificent view.

Mick the welder came up with the idea of diagonally parking Minis across Tony’s driveway, for a group photo. While moving my Mini I thought I caught a whiff of the salt air. But Mick informed me it was in fact a big fart and we wanted this to be quoted on the Mini website.

After more lounging around Mini Car Club members started to head home. Overall a fantastic day, excellent drive, food and hospitality by Tony and his family. Nice to see a few new faces. Judging by the turn out breakfast runs are certainly a winner all around. See you! (Marcus Hart)

Skid Pan Day Jan 2010

Here are some snaps taken of the Minis that had a blast at the Rokeby Police Academy skid pan day. Judging by the smiles on the day, we'll have to do it again some day!

The Winter Getaway 2009

Hi all, The Mini Car Club of Tasmania had its Annual Winter run. Last year the Car Club went to Tullah on the West Coast, this year it was decided to return to the sunny East Coast.

We met at Mures car park on Saturday morning and even departed on time, heading up the Midlands Hwy to Campbell Town. On the way up we had a quick regroup at Brighton to meet Rod Adams and check out a rather tough looking XF Falcon drag car.

Subway at Campbelltown seemed to be the most popular choice for lunch, Pete the Pom set a world record eating a foot long sub. He was even quicker than Paul and myself. Peter explained that he attended boarding school in England and he had to be a quick eater to survive.

From Campbell Town we went through Lake Leake, which is a magic road to drive in a Mini, unfortunately there were cyclists riding on the road for a race of some description. So part of the journey we were literally crawling behind the cyclists until we found a safe spot to overtake.

We arrived early in the afternoon and stayed at the Caravan Park in Bridge St Swansea. After settling in the cabins, Mick the Welder went for a drive looking for old cars. He came back with photos of an old four door Mark 1 Cortina! Ben Kemp was keen as mustard to know where it was. Mick did not give away the car's location, just teasing Ben for the rest of the afternoon.

Our evening meal we had at the Swansea Bark Mill, the food was excellent. The rest of the evening was spent drinking some of Josh’s home-brew in his cabin and eating the large box of reject chocolates from Cadbury. Yum!

Sunday morning was the usual big fry up of eggs and bacon for the Mini Car Club, Mick the Welder pigged out as always. After breakfast we said goodbye to the Jones family who headed back to Westbury. The rest of the gang went up the road to a nice beach, which I cannot remember the name of. (Nine Mile Beach?) On the way back we stopped at Spiky Bridge, took a few photos and had lunch at the Triabunna bakery.

Overall, a very relaxing and enjoyable weekend for the members who came. Not as good a turn up of members as past years. Anyhow see you at the next Club event!

Cheers, Marcus.
